The Mediterranean Diet

 One of my favorite diets to follow myself, and to suggest to my clients is the infamous Mediterranean  Diet.  

The reason why I like this diet so much is that it is so simple to incorporate into your lifestyle, and it is sustainable for the long haul.

Anyone can do it.  The Mediterranean diet is a pattern of eating that focuses more on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts, legumes, lean proteins from fish and poultry, good fats from olive oil, and some dairy, while limiting consumption of sweets and red meats.

Doesn't that sound pretty simple to follow?  It doesn't say you can't eat red meats and sweets, it says to limit the consumption of them.  

For me personally this diet opens you up to a world of new recipe ideas and I don't feel any limitations when I chose to eat like this.  

At this point in my life, it's just become my natural way of eating.  I find that I eat less, have less cravings, I have more energy, I sleep better, and my mind is clear.

Another reason I like this diet is because it has heart healthy benefits of eating this way. Research shows that eating a Mediterranean-style diet can reduce your risk of heart attack.  The results of the analysis showed that sticking closely to a Mediterranean diet was associated with a 24% lower risk of cardiovascular disease, and a 23% lower risk of death from any cause in women.

I personally incorporate intermittent fasting into this as well,  Basically, I finish eating somewhere around 7 PM, and my next meal is not until 11:00 AM, which gives me a 16 hour fast, and I break that fast by having fruit.  Usually my first fruit of the day is a nice big pink grapefruit.  It wakes up my taste buds and just energizing me with a healthy dose of Vitamin C.

The reason why I break the fast with fruit is because back in the 80's a concept started with a diet book called Fit for Life by Harvey and Marilyn Diamond.  The book introduces you to a new way of combining certain foods together in order to digest easier and quicker which in turn will help you lose weight, and have an abundance of energy.

When you eat fruit on an empty stomach, it digest very quickly and acts as a wash in your stomach and intestines cleaning out any remnants of undigested foods that has not been moved out yet. 

This will allow you to have very healthy bowel movements, and you will notice that any digestive issues you may have had such as constipation, gas, bloating, gas pains, etc. will begin to disappear and you will begin to notice an abundant amount of energy and stamina with clear thinking and alertness like you can't believe.
