How Can You Stick to Your Health Goals to Make Them a Reality?
How many times in your life have you said you were going to lose weight, eat healthy, exercise, meditate, save money, etc.?
My whole life I always set health goals, and I hardly ever stuck to them for very long. Then I began to notice another pattern of mine. When I found something that I absolutely loved to do that was healthy, I didn't have to set these goals because I just enjoyed doing it, and because I loved to do it I would do it all the time. For me it was running running.
By the time I turned 30 I quit doing some things that I was not so proud of and decided to get healthy instead. I turned my attention away from poor choices to better choices for my wellbeing. And pretty much that is when the idea of being a Health Coach first came about for me. That was 33 years ago!!
Running became my passion. Not only is it the best exercise for your body, IMO, but it was a wonderful emotional release as well. It's very freeing to be running through the streets, and I would jump in the sprinklers on the lawns to cool off and I just became addicted to running.
I always loved yoga, so I practice yoga until today because it makes me feel great, not because I have to.
I no longer run but I do walk, and I make sure to do it at least 4 or 5 times per week if I can. The other thing I will say is if I don't get the recommended amount of times in for exercise, I don't allow myself to feel guilty about it. If I didn't have time to exercise then there was something that needed my attention more than walking. And then I get right back on track.
I also have a trampoline in my apartment that I run on in place on and I also jump on because it has G force which makes it very easy on your joints. It's great cardio and also great fun.
I have some 7 pound and 10 pound dumbbells' that I use for my arms, back, shoulders and chest.
I tell you this so you see how simple it can be. You don't need a fancy gym membership if that's not your thing, and if it is, and it motivates you to go to the gym well then that is great too!
Whatever works for each and everyone. We are all individuals, and we have our likes and dislikes so what works for one will not work for another because it's not their thing.
So here's the takeaway: Just find things that you absolutely love to do and have fun doing it. If it's a sport such a golf, tennis, pickleball and whatever else you may be into. Just do it!
